NEW FUNDS DEMA Launches New Charitable Fund With Gift Of Encinitas Child The Downtown Encinitas Main Street Association (DEMA), in partnership with the Coastal Community Foundation (CCF) today announced the establishment of a charitable fund to support community projects, the arts and educational scholarships. "Our first project is Encinitas Child, a sculpture by award-winning sculptress and Encinitas resident Manuelita Brown," said Doug Long, President of the DEMA Board of Directors. "The sculpture celebrates DEMA's 25th anniversary. Depicting a young girl playfully waving to all who enter our downtown, it represents the wonder and promise that brings out the best in all of us regardless of age." "Encinitas Child depicts no one single person," said Brown. "It portrays equally all those who have worked hard and shared their dreams to make Encinitas the special place that it is." Manuelita Brown's work has been featured in many exhibitions in California, Texas, Maryland, and New York. Her awards include Second Place in 3-D Sculpture at the 2006 international Fine Art Show, San Diego County Fair; First Place Sculpture Purchase Award at 2003'sThe Best & The Brightest in Scottsdale, AZ; and Finalist in the commission competition for the Sojourner Truth Memorial Statue, Northampton, MA. She also created the Thurgood Marshall bust for the University of California, San Diego. DEMA has contributed $2,500 toward the sculpture and received $4,000 from the City Arts Grant program, $4,000 in matching funds from the Mizel Family Trust, and $8,000 from the County of San Diego. An additional $18,000 is needed to complete and install the sculpture that will be placed on the wall that lines South Coast Highway. Individual and businesses that would like to support this project to

Barbara Schneiderman Memorial Fund for Piano Enrichment Barbara Schneiderman dedicated her life to teaching music to children. She embraced the Suzuki Method of instruction and inspired several generations of young musicians with Dr. Suzuki's philosophy of "Nurtured by Love". A memorial fund has been established with the Coastal Community Foundation to honor Barbara Schneiderman; our beloved piano teacher. The purpose of this fund is to provide support to piano students and their families to attend a Suzuki Summer Camp or the Suzuki Convention. A future goal is to also provide support for the professional development of Suzuki piano teachers. Donations can be made to the Barbara Schneiderman Memorial Fund for Piano Enrichment at any time through the Coastal Community Foundation. Contributions are tax-deductible. Your gift today will facilitate and sustain the significant influence Barbara had on so many individuals. Barbara's inspirational spirit lives on through the beautiful music these students perform.
